About

Welcome to the official blog page of The Center for Migration, Identity and Rights  Studies!

The CMIRS is a newly established think tank in northern Cyrus that works on the issues of migration, identity and human rights.

The political situation and the physical distance of Cyprus creates an unequal balance in the exchange of cohesive cooperation, knowledge, experience and information sharing in every realm not only within the European Union but also on a global scale where inadequate levels of academic, human or information resources available for Turkish Cypriots continue to hinder the development of civil society.

The creation of The Center for Migration, Identity and Rights Studies serves the purpose of creating a more vibrant civil society, where it will act as think tank in the Turkish Cypriot community, provide research and data as well as policy recommendations on the topic of migration, identity and rights. Thus in addition to research , the organisation is action oriented and takes part in advocacy side as well.

The initiative of creation of CMIRS is supported by the project “Reconciliation, Confidence Building Measures and Support to Civil Society: Cypriot Civil Societ in Action II”, financed by The European Commission.

We hope that cmirs.wordpress.com will serve as a good source of information to professionals and general public and a good channel of communication.

Sincerely,

Mine Yucel,

Director
